Button copy might seem like a small thing, but it’s crucial to your conversions.

Are your buttons converting or driving visitors away?

Button Copy Examples

Check out these common mistakes along with some excellent alternatives.

✅ Get Started

Why: “Click Here” was all the rage in the 90s when the internet started, but it is a terrible choice for button copy. It’s a cold command that lacks context. On the other hand, “Get Started” suggests the start of a journey, prompting users to take the next step.

❌ Next

✅ Continue to My Free Trial

Why: “Next” is also vague, especially for multi-step forms. Something like “Continue to My Free Trial” provides clarity and a sense of ownership.

❌ Buy

✅ Add to Cart

✅ Choose Your Item

✅ Get It Now

Why: “Buy” can feel too abrupt, especially for high-value purchases. Both “Add to Cart” and “Choose Your Item” invite exploration and feel less pressured. “Get it Now” gives a sense of urgency. These alternatives emphasize action while keeping it user-friendly.

❌ Learn More

✅ Discover the Benefits

✅ Explore What’s In It For You

Why: “Learn More” is overused and bland. A prompt like “Discover the Benefits” offers clear value and raises curiosity, making visitors want to click. “Explore What’s In It For You” adds a conversational tone, sparks curiosity, and suggests that visitors will find valuable insights by clicking.

❌ Enter Now

Unlock Exclusive Access

See What’s Inside

Why: “Enter Now” may create urgency, but it’s still vague. “Unlock Exclusive Access” adds a sense of exclusivity. “See What’s Inside” raises curiosity and makes visitors want to click.

❌ Download

Send My Free Guide

Get My Free Resource

Why: Both “Send My Free Guide” and “Get My Free Resource” clearly state what the visitor will receive upon clicking. These alternatives also use “My” to personalize the action.

❌ Join

Join the Community

Connect with Like-Minded Members

Why: “Join” lacks context too, while “Join the Community” focuses on belonging and participation, which appeals to our desire to be part of something bigger. “Connect with Like-Minded Members” frames joining as an opportunity to meet others with similar interests, which adds social value and appeal.

More Winning Examples

These examples add even more clarity and engagement:

Get Your 20% Off Now

Why: This one clearly communicates the benefit, and the “Now” adds urgency, which increases click-through.

Show Me How It Works

Why: This invites visitors to explore the process without sounding too salesy — excellent for a service or complex product. Including the “Me” makes it more personal.

Try Free for 2 Months

Why: This one communicates the next action to take. It also highlights the relatively long trial period.

Bonus Example

The other day, I came across a button I had never seen before.

Pay nothing now

I mean, c’mon… isn’t this the best button copy ever for a free product?
