Today I'm going to show you how to get killer testimonials...

So you can boost your credibility and attract new clients.

👉 I've also included a free email template you can use to ask for testimonials — grab it below.

When I was starting as a freelance designer, I didn’t know what the hell I was doing...

But there’s one vital thing I learned early in my career:

Get great testimonials!

They’re one of the best types of social proof you can get...

What people say about you will ALWAYS have more influence than when you say it yourself.

I couldn’t be more thankful to my clients for the kind words they’ve said about me.

Two examples from my portfolio:

Now let's get YOU some killer testimonials!

So you can have new clients coming at you like...

How to Get Testimonials that Boost Your Credibility

These are the major points to consider when making a request:

  1. Ask soon after you deliver a finished project (on time) to your client.

  2. Compliment them or offer them something (e.g. a link to their website).

  3. Provide simple, open-ended questions that guide their response.

  4. Show them where it will appear (e.g. your homepage or subscribe page).

  5. Give an option to save them time, such as writing a single sentence or helping them write it.

👇 Now here's an email you can reach out to clients with:

Template: Testimonial Request Email

Feel free to copy and paste this directly, but I encourage you to make it your own — use language you would use.

Hi [Client],

It was a pleasure working with you on [project name], and I’m glad you got what you needed.

One thing that helps explain what I do to new potential clients is kind words from amazing clients like you.

It can be tough finding great clients like you. Some kind words from you would be a huge help for attracting new potential clients.

Would you be okay giving a testimonial about my work? It would appear on the About Page of my website, with my other client feedback. This could also give you a link back to your website.

To help you, I’ve included some guiding questions below. And if you don’t have much time, just 1–2 sentences would be a big help. I could even write a draft for you, if that's easier.

Guiding Questions:

  • What problem were you trying to solve when you contacted me?

  • What made you choose me for the project?

  • How has my solution made a difference in your business?

  • What made you the happiest about working with me?

  • What surprised you the most about working with me?

  • What would you say to someone on the fence about hiring me?

I appreciate any feedback you could give.

Thank you,[Your Name]

You can ask them later for a headshot and how their name should appear. I like to separate this step so the first email isn't too much all at once.

Of course, you’re going to need a subject line too — here are a few you could use:

Example Subject Lines

  • I’d love your feedback

  • Share your experience?

  • Could you share your experience?

  • Thank you for being an excellent client

One more thing before we say goodbye.

You may already have nice words from people sitting in your emails, DMs, or comments — be sure to check there too.

Just get permission before using anything 😉

Still... asking your clients directly and including guiding questions gets you testimonials that are WAY more influential.

So, have you been asking your clients for testimonials?

If you need any help with this, just yell.
