How to Develop a Brand Voice with Impact
Cultivate a voice that truly speaks to your audience
Read time: 1 minute
Brand voice isn't about shouting the loudest...
It's about resonating the most.
Speak not just with your audience's language, but also with their emotions.
What does your audience need to hear?
To know this, look at their values, fears, frustrations, and aspirations.
You’ll learn the most by speaking with your audience members directly.
Make a profile of your ideal client so you know exactly who you’re targeting.
What does your voice sound like?
Find this by defining your brand: your values, positioning, and personality.
Write more, and the essence of your voice will form over time.
Actively develop the traits you want: humour, empathy, persuasiveness, etc.
Be situation aware
Always choose your tone based on:
The medium and platform you’re on
The nature of the message
The kind of reaction you want
Sometimes you need humour and sometimes you need urgency.
At times, a contrarian view might get the reaction you wish.
Maintain clarity above all else
If you confuse them, you lose them.
A misunderstood message can alienate your audience.
They shouldn’t need to decipher your words or navigate inconsistencies.
Clever writing is only clever when clarity is not sacrificed.
Cultivate a resonant brand voice
Developing an impactful brand voice is a blend of:
Understanding your audience's needs
Defining your brand's character
Adjusting your tone to the situation
Ensuring clarity in your message
As you practice, your unique brand voice will naturally emerge.
This will help you connect more deeply with your audience and differentiate your brand.
