👵 Where's hip-hop granny when you need her?

Discover your brand values to show your personality, build trust and credibility, and connect with your audience.

My mom used to tell me I was unique…

Just like everyone else 😜

Creators who show their unique differences not only stand out, but also stick in people’s minds.

Grab their attention → you get noticed

Keep their attention → become remarkable

Make a dope music video with your hip-hop granny Supercalifuckinglegend, bro!

Then how do you show that you are unique?

(Since it’s no thanks to your grandma.)

It all starts with your personal core values.

Defining your core values is an essential step in building a successful brand.

It allows you to:

  • Showcase your unique value.

  • Set yourself apart from the rest.

  • Keep a clear and consistent message.

  • Build trust and credibility with your audience.

  • Make it easier for people to connect with you.

Find your core values with these questions:

To find your core values, take some time to reflect on what makes you you.

Think about the core ideas you turn to when life gets tough.

Ask yourself these questions…

  • How do I want people to remember me?

  • What does success look like for me?

  • What behaviours will I not tolerate?

  • What truly brings me joy in life?

  • What do I value above all else?

Now let’s translate that for your brand…

Distill your core values into your brand values:

Once you have clear core values, you can define your brand values.

Aim for 3-6 clear points that reflect what you stand for.

Describe what each value means, and how it plays out in the real world.

Prioritize them so they accurately reflect your brand.

Then...

Incorporate them into ALL ASPECTS of your branding.

This will help you stay consistent and build credibility, making it easier for people to trust you, connect with you, and buy from you.

Examples of brand values:

Creativity, community, collaboration, innovation, excellence, flexibility, diversity, fairness, empathy, passion, simplicity, sustainability…

And those are just a few examples that can work well with a one-person business…

What are my brand values?

Reflecting on my life and work over the years, I've come to these brand values.

→ Creativity: look at every problem through a creative lens

→ Curiosity: never stop learning about the world and myself

→ Excellence: ship quality in everything big and small

→ Friendliness: maintain welcoming speech and behaviour

→ Fairness: help those in need and root for the underdog

→ Fun: enjoy life, be silly, and tell lots of dad jokes

When you're writing your values, remember, they don't have to be set in stone.

They can change over time as you evolve.
