Read time: 2 minutes

With countless emails, ads, products, and notifications bombarding us from all directions…

People crave simplicity.

Just as our lives benefit from decluttering, so do our brands.

Many people get this wrong… and yes, I’m also guilty of this 🙋‍♂️

I must have edited my Twitter bio a thousand times before landing on something I was happy with.

The Temptation to Cram Everything In

We often try to squeeze excess meaning into our marketing…

  • More ideas

  • More icons

  • More words

  • More colours

There’s no end to the websites, bios, and products that confuse people with word salad. Not to mention all the social banners that cram in too many words, icons, and vague CTAs 🙃

Adding too much sacrifices clarity, dilutes the essence of your brand, and turns people away.

So, how do we avoid this temptation?

How I Keep Things Simple

When I write a page or a paragraph, I always ask myself:

“What doesn’t need to be here?“

Doing this regularly has led to more positive feedback and more self-satisfaction.

I always think of this quote by The Little Prince author:

“Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.”

– Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

(One of my favourites.)

Are you ready for some strategies to simplify your brand?

How to Simplify Your Brand

Here are 6 excellent ways to simplify your brand:

  1. Appeal to one type of audience – Trying to please everybody pleases nobody. Identify your ideal client and build your brand with them in mind.

  2. Refine your messaging – Focus on your core values, uniqueness, and audience benefits to build more trust and desire.

  3. Clarify your bio – Make it easy for people to understand who you are, what you do, and why they should care.

  4. Streamline your content – Cut the fluff from your newsletters, blog posts, and social updates to provide concise and valuable content.

  5. Declutter your visuals – Reduce the number of elements in your banner, remove the small details from your logo, and avoid busy backgrounds.

  6. Do regular brand audits – Review your brand from time to time, get feedback from other professionals, and update as needed — so you can stay aligned with your most important goals.

As hard as it may be, we must let go of the things that serve little or no purpose.

Does it really work like this?

Yes, Simple Branding Works

When Steve Jobs returned to Apple in 1997, he removed 70% of their product range 😳

This helped save Apple from bankruptcy and turned it into a multi-billion dollar company.

By embracing less, we make a bigger impact.

We make it easier for our audience to understand and connect with us.

Simplicity creates standout brands that outshine their competitors.

In fact…

Just one great trait or experience can give people a positive overall impression of you.

Reflect on Your Brand…

→ Does your brand messaging align with your core values?

→ Is your client promise crystal clear?

→ Is there anything that could be removed?

I’d love to hear what you think…
